Billy Twomey and Daighilev wins Charles Stanley British Masters Grand Prix

The British Masters at southview equestrian center saw some fine jumping with cumulated with the grand prix event, which saw the Irish man Billy Twomey grab victory from a competitive field. Of the 12 horse and rider combinations that competed in the jump off eleven of them were on a clear score, with Louise Whitaker on a single time fault.

Half way through the second round Billy Twomey rode Daighilev posting a deceptively fast time of 28.77 seconds putting him in the lead. “This horse has all the ability in the world, and while I’m still getting to know him, I was pretty confident that he would cope with whatever I asked,” said Billy, who was quickly off the mark on the first day with Diaghilev who won the first world rankings class.

It was fellow Irish rider Richard Howley who finished in second place with his athletic stallion Camiro De Haar Z who is by the Zangersheide stallion Chellano Z, Richard and Camiro De Haar Z was chasing to the final fence taking a stride out, but it was only enough for second place in a time of 29.22 seconds. Third place was Alise Oken from the USA with a time of 29.52 riding Belmont, while in fourth place saw the highest British rider Simon Crippen with Ondine Du Logis in a time of 32.57 seconds. The only other double clear of the event was Harriet Nuttall with A Touch Imperious finishing in fifth place.

Louise Whitaker and USA Today finished in sixth place with one time fault from the first round, Anthony Condon and Value T had the fastest time of 27.81 seconds but with a fence down saw him finish in seventh place. The rest of the places saw Phillip Miller riding the Hickstead Derby winner Caritiar Z, Sammie-Jo Coffin (Willem De Lux), Louise Saywell (Winner), David McPherson (Perfect Rouge) and Peter Charles (Murka’s Odie De Frevent).

In other events young rider Nicole Pavitt had a good show that including victory in the speed challenge, another young rider on fine form was William Whitaker who won two classes with Bow House Rubis and Upperclass, Joe Clayton claimed the accumulator with Ingliston Twister, and locally based Irishman Anthony Condon who won one of the world rankings classes with Paul Strafford’s Bolesworth grand prix winner Value T.

In the junior classes Millie Allen won the European Viewing Trial and Fairfax Winter JA Classic Championship riding Scoubidou IV and Song Girl respectively.
